Barbie Car Brooches

Exhibition

Emerging artists face many challenges when trying to establish their artistic identity and voice. Inspired by Ted Noten’s iconic Mercedes Benz brooches (2001), this series of 30 brooches reflects on my journey of carving out a place in today’s landscape of contemporary jewellery. One of those challenges artist face is the constant dialogue with the histories that inform their work, which triggers questions about one’s authenticity and whether it is, in fact, possible to create any original work.

Eva Kerer

Eva Kerer is a contemporary jeweller based in Whakatū - Nelson. Her practice is informed by materiality and combines traditional silversmithing with experimental techniques, often incorporating found objects. Eva explores jewellery as a communication tool, questioning conventional perceptions of value and craftsmanship and examining the meanings attached to the materials.
